Our Story

The founders of Sunday Line Communications, Velma Chapman and Bernice Gerard, began ministry in the mid-1930's as they travelled throughout Canada and later extended their ministry internationally to such countries as the United States, England, Central and South America. In 1964, with the support of Broadway Church, they became founders and co-pastors of Fraserview Assembly in Vancouver. A few years later, Bernice began a regional radio ministry that quickly progressed to national television. Their mandate to care for children around the world was born from the response of their viewing audience to the guests and the many needs that were presented in the TV programs. One of Bernice's last desires, expressed to Pastor Roman in her senior years, was to see the ministry they had founded continue to grow and be a blessing both locally and internationally.

Church in the Park was created to be the ministry arm of Sunday Line Communications. It began as a Sunday Line Fellowship group in Pastor Roman and Pat's home. When their living and dining area became too small to accommodate the growing number of people, a move was made in August of 2013 to the Sunnyside Community Hall in the Bakerview Park of South Surrey. In this beautiful setting, the name "Church in the Park" was readily adopted.

Prompted by the renovations taking place at Sunnyside Hall, Church in the Park moved to their present location at the White Rock Community Centre when it became available in November of 2016.
